Ras Al Khor Wildlife Romanized from the word Ra’s Al-khawr. It is a wetland reserve situated in Dubai, UAE. Ras Al khor is famous for attracting through migratory beautiful birds in large numbers. This wetland has large numbers of small mammals, crustaceans, fishes and varies birds. It is also home to about 500 Phoenicopterus roseus the greater flamingoes and it becomes type of mascot for Dubai’s wildlife safety plan.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary shows an enclave of respective wildness in the middle of traffic and straggling Urban infrastructure. It is located among the few safest areas of the world same like its name in Arabic version which means ‘at the Cape of the Creek’.

The Dubai Municipality is the best in these type of actions, they have taken a great initiative to protect and secure the biodiversity of this sophisticated ecosystem. This wetland is secured from the public through fence and they built three birding hides for the birds to rest in it.

The bird hides are the main step towards the safety of birds and development of more detailed visitor’s education potential area. The Dubai Municipality Environment depart. and WWF UAE project office cooperated with each other in setting up the different facilities which are organized and sponsored by the NBA (National Bank of Dubai).

This destination is ideal for the nature lover people and the visitors who love birds and enjoy in their company. Opportunities for experiencing a total natural atmosphere in this quickly building –up state are very less that this chance of opening of Ras Al Khor to the visitors is a blessing to show the potential and love for the nature.

Journey inside Ras Al Khor wildlife Sanctuary:

Ras Al khor is just away few meters from the busy and charming city of Dubai on Oud Mehta road, with a lot of stunning birds in its wetland. This cape of Creek covers almost 6.2sqm. and presents a variety of intertidal mudflats, salt flats, mangroves and lagoons.

Ras Al Khor Wildlife sanctuary is one of the famous area of arid zone with the globally importance as a wetland under the Ramsar convention and known as a famous bird area by Bird Life International. This Sanctuary serves as a breeding area and home for fishes, mammals, crustaceans.

The most important part of the attention in this wetland is flamingos and they steal the show specially in winter. They look massive because of their pink feathers if you will closer to them. It is possible to watch grey herons, reef herons, cormorants, great egrets, black shiny winged stilts, osprey, sandpipers and many more. The three bird hides are free during the daylight for the public and they are the first step in developing the protection of this area.

Entrance and the timings:

Entrance is free for the public like big groups, educational trips, media companies etc. Currently there are 3 bird hides on the perimeter of this wildlife sanctuary and open to the public.

Entrance timings in Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary starts from 7:30am to 5:30pm from October till March and in summers from 6am to 6pm from April till September Saturday to Thursday. Closed on Fridays.

Best time to visit:

The best suitable time to visit Ras Al Khor Wildlife Sanctuary is during the winter season between October to March. In winters over 3000 birds coming from Africa and West Asia to make this wetland their home. Winter is also best because pink flamingos settle the special place in this inspiring land.

One of the best time to visit this destination during a day is between 10am to 4pm as it is a time to feed flamingo.

How to get Ras Al Khor:

You can use many options to go to Ras al Khor such as; Metro line 61 bus. You can take metro from Nakheel stop to Al Jafiya red stop but keep in mind there is no metro station near by this area. OR you can use your private car or a taxi to get there which is suitable option to get there.

You can take bus number 84 from Al Barsha Heights to Al Quoz Al Khail Gate entrance 1. And you can book Uber too from Dubai to Ras al Khor.

Visitors expectations from Ras Al khor:

If you are interested in seeing the nature so closely, you should consider a visit to Ras Al Khor wildlife sanctuary in Dubai. It is a special wetland reserve territory within the destination from little far away from Dubai. If you are planning to visit Ras Al Khor you should keep cameras or your smartphone with better picture results along yourself as this is the best place to capture the nature from so close.

This attraction may not be as exciting as shopping malls, souks or different other Dubai attractions but yes it is very peaceful natural place where you can spend more relaxing time from the hustle bustle of the city life and enjoy the birds sounds around you.
