Food items seized from a warehouse in Ajman include 40 tonnes of expired goods

According to the authorities, 40 tonnes of expired food items were recently seized from an unlicensed warehouse in Ajman Industrial Area. After confirming that unlawful activities were occurring in the warehouse, Ajman’s Department of Economic Development (Ajman DED) and a team from the emirate’s municipality raided the warehouse.

They discovered that the warehouse employees changed the expiration dates of the products and redistributed them to markets. It was determined that all the seized food items were unfit for human consumption. “The warehouse contained food items that were expired and whose sources were unknown. Consumers were duped when the company removed the old expiration dates and replaced them with new ones.

Ahmed Obaid Al Suwaidi, head of the health control department at the Municipality and Planning Department, says: “We have destroyed what was seized and will continuously monitor all establishments within the emirate.” The warehouse was closed and legal measures were taken. Abdullah Ahmed Al Hamrani, director-general of the Ajman DED, said the operation was part of the department’s efforts to protect consumers and protect public health.
