With 83 points, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) inaugurated the world’s first mosque to receive the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the US Green Building Council (USGBC).
According to the highest environmental sustainability standards, Hatta’s mosque can accommodate more than 600 worshippers on a 1,050 square metre area.
This mosque features a 25-metre-high minaret, a parking lot for cars and motorbikes, facilities for People of Determination, and a green charger station. Energy and water is conserved to the tune of 26.5% and 55.5%, respectively. Currently, solar photovoltaic panels and a water treatment system are being installed.
In addition to using recycled materials to construct the mosque, DEWA ensured air quality by using a highly efficient air purifying device. It is part of DEWA’s comprehensive and sustainable development plan to support Hatta’s social, economic, and environmental development that the world’s first mosque to receive a platinum rating for green buildings has been inaugurated,” Al Tayer added.
